At the root of Harry Bertoia’s designs is his deep affinity for nature. Italian born and American education Bertioa was a skilled jewelery maker and internationally acclaimed sculptor.
After opening his own metal shop in the late thirties Bertoia taught jewelery making and eventually turned his focus to furniture production. In the early 1940’s Bertoia worked with Charles and Ray Eames creating sculptural, molded plywood furniture that revolutionized the definition of what a chair could be in both form and function.
As Bertoia is perhaps best known as a sculptor, it is fitting that his most recognizable furniture piece is a sculptural latticework of steel rod that fits the contours of the human form and is remarkably comfortable. Modern Classics is proud to offer the most accurate, high quality reproductions of the Bertoia Diamond Chair and Side Chairs. After his success with these pieces he devoted the remainder of his life’s work to the pursuit of sculpture and forever remains an icon of modernist furniture and art.
