One of the most recognized inventions of the famed Castiglioni brothers, Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, is the Arco lamp. The floor lamp was designed in 1962 and has been described as a design that solves more than one problem; it provides overhead lighting and saves you the trouble of drilling it into the ceiling like chandeliers. It can illuminate objects far enough in the middle of a dining table- eight feet away from its base. If this isn’t the epitome of form and functionality, I don’t know what is! According to Milanese architect and urban planner Stefano Boeri, the Arco lamp creates a new concept of light. This production required fewer resources and not so much investment and powerful machinery, creativity at its finest. It is simple, elegant, and very genius. The Arco Lamp has been a very appealing design since its debut almost six decades ago. It has been featured in some Hollywood classics like The Italian Job and has been in productions ever since. Therefore, it would be wrong to assume this design is iconic. According to Milanese architect and urban planner Stefano Boeri, the Arco lamp creates a new concept of light. They used parts they found commercially to come up with an innovative yet practical lamp. The design has a marble base, a curved structure, and a cap with an aluminum ring that holds the light.

The aluminum ring is adjustable, the curved form is made of steel, and the base is a Carrera marble base with sloping edges to ensure you do not bruise yourself when you brush against them. Additionally, the Arco lamp has holes drilled on the base strategically to allow easy lifting when moving it around. This lamp lives in the room without necessarily taking over space. Achille and Pier were keen on ensuring the Arco lamp is a masterpiece, checking all boxes; elegance, beauty, and functionality. The Castiglioni brothers drew their inspiration from the street lights.
