In December 1944, a project for the General Motor Technical Center in Warren MI was awarded to the film of Saarinen, Swanson and Saarinen to create a campus of office buildings and their furniture and fixtures. The initial commission called for 25 building, in which nearly 5,000 people would work. The Model 71 Armchair was used extensively for this project. In addition, Eero Saarinen designed a collection of lounge seating for the lobby of the Center, which were produced locally and never put into mass production.
We created this GM Lobby chair by sifting through the historical photographs of the GM Lobby and through Modern Classics owner's keen design sense and eye for detail to create a very close approximation of this chair. This chair is a modern classics exclusive.
